2011 Opel Astra ecoFLEX Outfitted With a New Active Aero Front Grille Shutter

Opel has announced the 2011 Astra ecoFLEX will be outfitted with a new active aero front grille shutter (which closes at high speeds to improve aerodynamics), an optimized ECU, and an improved exhaust gas recirculation module (EGR).

The new Opel Astra debuts in England as Vauxhall ecoFLEX version. Equipped with the 1.3 diesel with 95 hp Euro 5 and particulate filter, the 5-door model with Start/Stop system, declares an average consumption of 4.2 l/100 km, a very interesting result especially when compared with the previous model, which used the 110 hp 1.7-liter engine with consumption of 4.5 l/100 km. Thanks to this technology and a range of mechanical and aerodynamic improvements, customers can get the best fuel efficiency and respecting the environment.

The new Opel Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX has an average list price of 19,000 euro (excluding taxes), the same as the previous model, with no shutdown system and auto start; main technical features remain also unchanged: diesel common rail with variable geometry turbo, power 95 hp, maximum torque 190 Nm between 1,750 and 3,250 rpm.

Specs engine, The multi-valve turbo diesel of 95 hp 1.3 CDTI, has also the new engine control unit E59, in addition to a optimized EGR valve to recirculate exhaust gas now water-cooled to further reduce emissions. The particulate filter (DPF) is offered as standard. Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX is fitted with five-speed manual transmission optimized to minimize power consumption. Version 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX is available on the new Sports Tourer, which consumes 4.1 lt/100 km and has a level of emissions of 109 g / km CO2.

Astra ecoFLEX is part of the range Opel ecoFLEX diesel with low CO2 emissions, which also includes the Corsa 1.3 CDTI 95 hp (94 g / km) and Insignia 2.0 CDTI with 118 kW/160 hp (129 g / km).
